Scope Ratings is a Rating Agency headquartered in Berlin, Germany operating under the issuer-pays model specializing in ratings and research of financial institutions, corporate, structured finance transactions and alternative investment funds across Europe.
Registration status in the EU: Scope Ratings is registered as CRA with ESMA since January 6th, 2011.
Since 1. January 2014, Scope is also a recognized ECAI across the whole European Union. On November 1st, 2016, the following mapping of ECAI ratings to the 6 Credit Quality Steps under the Standardized approach for Banks (Capital Requirements Regulation, CRR) and the 7 Steps under Solvency II for insurances in the EU entered into force:

Business model: Scope operates under the issuer-pays model. In order to provide a wider coverage, Scope also assigned ratings on an unsolicited basis.
Coverage: According to information provided by Scope Ratings, Scope Ratings is active in the following business segments: Corporate Bonds, Banks, Structured Finance, Alternative Investment Funds and Covered Bonds. These four business areas are being continually refined and expanded to provide greater depth, insight and coverage of various industry sectors and products. Ratings assigned in: Germany, Spain, France, Italian, Benelux, Great Britain, Switzerland and Austria.
